Description
The Old Canonry has a fascinating and intriguing history and is Grade I Listed. In 1282, Archbishop Peckham founded Wingham College and The Old Canonry is believed to have been used as accommodation for minor canons; the undercroft and part of the house dates from that period. The bulk of the remainder of the house is believed to date from the 15th Century and is a good example of Tudor architecture. It occupies a prominent position opposite the church in the picturesque village of Wingham, just outside Canterbury.
